In the Beginning

“In the beginning, God created the

heavens and the earth…” Gen 1:1

What difference does it make, what I believe about

Creation?

There was a time when I, like many others, questioned the validity of the Genesis creation account. My views were radically changed however, as a listened to a Christian geologist and paleontologist share his testimony of how, as a teenager who was passionate about science, he wrestled with his belief in the God of the Bible and the truth of God’s word, versus the seeming facts of evolution. After a period of time, he learned that there are recognized and respected scientists who practice their science from the frame of the Genesis creation account being true, rather than from the frame of evolution. As he shared his story, he began to lay out why is is important  that we accept the Genesis creation account as the truth, as opposed to the teaching of evolution. His reasons were based both on science as well as the Bible and as he began to go through the Scriptural basis for his stand on the 7-day account of creation, I began to realize how our standing in judgement regarding the validity of the creation account, begins a deep undermining of the foundational truth of the very Gospel to which we claim to hold. The intended audience for this blog are those who believe in the God of the Bible, and who have put their trust in Jesus Christ His Son. Those who do not believe in the God of the Bible are pretty well free to believe whatever they choose; God gave us the gift of freedom of choice, and He will not violate that choice, though with choice comes responsibility. Those of us who claim to believe in the God of the Bible, and who believe that Jesus is all He says He is, need to think very carefully about what we will accept as truth. When we place ourselves in the judgement seat and call into question the validity of the creation account, we are calling into question the integrity of the God we say is righteous, holy and full of truth. There are many references to creation throughout the Bible, but there are a few that have serious consequences if the creation account is not true. I will give you just a few examples, and I challenge you to study the Bible to find others and to let the Spirit of God lead you into truth. 1. Through one man sin entered the world (see Rom 5:12). If man evolved then sin could not have entered all of humanity though one man. If this is so then the Gospel is a lie for it is based on the the teaching that God created one man, Adam, and from that man, He created the woman, Eve, so sin entered through Adam and through Adam the rest of the human race became slaves to sin. 2. Jesus’ genealogy “… the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.” (See Luke 3:38) If evolution is true, then there are  a few other primates involved before getting to cellular level and a chemical freak of nature initiated life… 3. It is a faith issue. “By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.” (See Heb 11:3) The scientists at Creation Ministries International make a very obvious observation : There was no human being around at the time of the creation/formation of the universe and the earth, so at the end of the day, whichever view you choose to hold to, you hold to it by faith. Now the question is : faith in what or whom? What holds more credibility for you : the word of God, or the science of man?
As you touch or hover over each picture in the four small squares above, they will be magnified in the main square. This demonstrates what happens in our minds; what we focus on becomes enlarged in our minds, to the exclusion of other things. When we get to see a larger frame, and see how the smaller parts fit together, our understanding often shifts.
