God on Trial

"God is love, and the one who abides in

love abides in God, and God abides in

him." 1 John 4:16

Someone is Lying…

I have heard it taught that the original sin was that Adam and Eve desired independence from God, and though I held to this teaching, the question that lingered in the back of my mind was, "why?" Why would Adam and Eve want independence from God? What was it that caused them to take the risk of death? Why did they want independence so badly? I believe that it possibly started out innocently. Eve has come to know God as being good, but Satan seems so sincere, why would he lie? Satan has given her the reason why God would deceive her, but why would Satan want to deceive her? I believe Eve wanted the ability to gain wisdom independently of the two sources who now stood in question before her. How would she decide? She needed knowledge of Good and Evil to determine who was good and who was evil… Have you ever stood in judgement against God?   As Hurricane Irma headed for Florida, many emails and social media messages began doing the rounds; some were lists of facts, some prophetic messages, and some highly emotional calls to pray! pray! pray! Most of the messages carry were designed to elicit fear and panic - and it is that element of fear that causes the message to become viral. My question to you is, what is behind the fear you feel in response to the messages? What are your thoughts towards God as you see the pictures of Barbuda and the rest of the Caribbean Islands after Hurricane Irma? I read a blog by some famous person, accusing God of being effectively a sadistic brute (in a language I prefer not to use on my blog). Tearing off your religious façade, what is really going on deep down in your heart? Not looking at your final response, what was the very first thought/temptation to think as you felt the fear elicited by the messages? What was the judgement you were tempted to make? That God will not be true to His promise to be with us in this? That He does not care about our loved ones for whom we have been interceding? That He is harsh and cruel? How does the fear prompted by these types of messages affect your thinking? Does it stimulate clear, focussed, solution-oriented thinking, with a heightened clarity in hearing what the Spirit is saying to you about your role as a representative of His love in the wake of Irma, the political situation in South Africa, or the drought in Cape Town? Or is it panic; clouded, subjective thinking, and scrambling self-determined thoughts to protect my possessions, family, and friends? Fear clouds, confuses, turns thoughts inward to self-protection; it blinds us to God's goodness and deafens us to His still small voice. Fear is Satan's choice weapon, and it causes us to stand in judgement of God - is He really all He says He is? Fear incapacitates. God is love and in His  presence there is peace; peace that empowers and motivates and emboldens. "Perfect love drives out fear for fear has to do with  punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love." 1 John 4:17-18
As you touch or hover over each picture in the four small squares above, they will be magnified in the main square. This demonstrates what happens in our minds; what we focus on becomes enlarged in our minds, to the exclusion of other things. When we get to see a larger frame, and see how the smaller parts fit together, our understanding often shifts.
